Rehomed hounds
Maggie
"Maggie is incredible. I reckon she is about five or six years old. She does sometimes pick up on scents when we're out walking, but she always finds me again. She wears falconry bells so that she can be heard. She has found a few fox dens but she'll stand there and do nothing. She lives with cats in our home. In a different environment - where they're not encouraged to hunt - they lose their hunting instinct. She is terrified of the sound of a hunting horn, and she has got a lot of deep scars on her. The fact that she was left to die on the side of the road says it all. She was house-trained within a week."
Negan
"I don't know how Negan survived in a hunt! He has never picked up a scent in the eight years I have had him. He's a goofy boy. He's got very bad spondylitis now, likely from hunting. Hounds twist their bodies when they're hunting, so we think it's down to that. He's got cancer as well. He's a gentle giant! He thinks he's a poodle in size and walks over my other dogs to sit down, and they all get out of the way for him. He goes to bed at about 8pm, and he spends most of the night with his bum on my pillow!"
Bramble
"Bramble has shown such resilience. She is nervous around men, but every single day she edges a little further forward. Her favourite thing is a frozen Kong, and she has an unerring instinct for finding the softest spot in any room to sleep. Bramble was an unclaimed, unregistered stray who found herself in rescue. When she was picked up, she was suffering from an untreated ear infection and a severe infection caused by a foreign body, vets warned she could easily have developed sepsis and died. Most troubling of all, they believed the foreign body had been there for some time, almost certainly long before she was ever picked up as a stray. Someone knew. No one acted, the vets described it as "neglect" . That she is here, making progress, finding her soft spot, is nothing short of extraordinary."
Alfred
"Alfred is wonderful. He was picked up in Lincolnshire as an unclaimed stray and came into rescue with no history at all. He does pick up scents when we're out walking, but it never leads anywhere. he'll follow a thread through the grass and then just carry on with his day. He lives for the scent of life as opposed to destroying it. There's not an ounce of discontent in him. He is the friendliest foxhound going, and he loves his food. The fact that he was left unclaimed on the side of the road says it all. He's just a normal dog."
