About

As of right now, the pro-hunting lobby is arguing that if hunting is banned, they will be forced to kill their hounds.

The same people who claim to love these animals are now using them as pawns in a desperate attempt to protect their pastime.

This is why Protect the Wild has launched the Rehome the Hounds campaign to dismantle the myth that hounds cannot thrive in domestic environments.

By sharing the stories of rehomed hounds, we want to show the public, politicians, and the media something the hunting world would rather they didn't see: that these animals are not only capable of living happily in homes, but that they are already doing so.

Every story we tell exposes the lie that culling is inevitable,  and shines a light on the grim reality that hounds are routinely treated as tools, kept in poor conditions, and shot when they are no longer useful to the hunt.

Rehome the Hounds exists to change that. We want to educate the public about what is really happening to these animals, debunk the myth that their fate is out of our hands, and build a practical network of rescues willing to act.

We are asking rescue organisations across the UK to pledge their support, whether that means taking on a single hound, offering fostering, or working with hunts on a phased rehoming programme that reduces culling over time. The ask is simple: if hunts stopped breeding now and worked with rescues today, fewer hounds would need to be killed.
Every rescue that pledges brings us one step closer to making that a reality.

We look forward to highlighting more stories of hounds thriving in homes across the UK, and to supporting the rescues, behaviourists, and advocates who share our belief that these dogs deserve far better than they are currently getting.
